The initiative to organize an international children's choir festival came from the Friends of the Philharmonic Children's Choir and Youth Choir of the Dresden Philharmonic. Since 200 it has been organizing this festival.
In 2012 a self-contained association named „Internationales Kinderchorfestival Dresden e. V.“ was founded. The board of organizers did not change. All team members work voluntarily and see the festival as a matter of personal importance. They want to continue the tradition of the festival.
The association was founded on the initiative of the vocalists’ parents at the time after German reunification. In the same year, the youth choir was established on the recommendation of Jörg Peter Weigle. For this reason, the association could support both choirs in the same way.
Right from the start, former vocalists, music lovers, parents and members of the youth choir felt the desire to provide organizational and financial backing. Supporting PR has always been high on the agenda. In cooperation with sponsors, foundations and benefactors the Association supported concerts in and around Dresden and abroad, thereby furthering international youth exchange on a musical base.
During mutual visits of choirs from China, Australia, England, Namibia, France and others, the idea was born to make the Children’s Choir Festival an inherent part of cultural life in Dresden.
