The Festival

The first International Children’s Choir Festival Dresden – held in 2006 – was in fact a birthday present. Back then Dresden, the capital of Saxony, was celebrating its 800th anniversary. Choirs from six European twin cities were invited to sing and to build friendships with the local Philharmonic Children’s Choir. Based on the success of the festival it was agreed to continue the project in the following years.

Over the last years the following considerable patrons have accompanied our festival:

2006 – Prof. Peter Schreier
2008 – Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos
2010 – Prof. Kurt Masur

Over the past years, we here in Dresden had the privilege  to welcome choirs from Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia. Finally, the International Children’s Choir Festival has captured all continents.

Singing together at the “Church of Our Lady “ and some other venues, discovering the city of Dresden, a reception at the city hall of the Lord Mayor Helma Orosz, as well as a steamboat tour on the Elbe river are included into the multi-faceted programme.

Due to the increasing level of awareness, the growing numbers of visitors and the rising participation of international children´s choirs the festival programme has been expanded.
